The c340 is designed with simplicity in mind, although Garmin hasn't forgotten to add a touch of class. With a weight of under ten ounces and a width of 4.4 inches, the c340 is ultracompact and easy to transport. To keep confusion on the road to a minimum, the only buttons are a rotary volume knob and an on/off switch. The bright 3.5-inch-diagonal display features a touchscreen, making it a snap to input routing information and make quick selections on the road. The c340 sports dual integrated speakers for high-quality voice prompts, a USB port for PC connectivity, and an internal lithium-ion battery that provides power when you're planning your routes outside the car (approximately 4-8 hours battery life). In addition to an included 12-volt power adapter for in-car power, there's also an SD memory card expansion slot for use with other Garmin MapSource mapping products. The unit is secured by a suction-mount cradle that fastens to the windshield, allowing for easy portability between vehicles. You can even customize the c340's appearance with optional colored faceplates that suit your style. Garmin has also made it easy for users to upload custom points of interest--now you can add school zones or safety cameras to your database. You can even turn on a proximity alert to notify you of upcoming custom points of interest.

Garmin really kicks the power of the c340 up a notch with the addition of real-time traffic information. This optional service will display congested areas on a color-coded map, allowing you to avoid traffic by simply pushing a button that calculates a new route. All this wizardry is made possible by the new Garmin GTM 10 receiver that connects to the c340 and other select Garmin products. Note that while the GTM 10 receives digital data from specific FM broadcast stations in select major metro areas throughout the United States and Europe, note that these traffic services are available only in select cities where coverage exists. pros. great for finding places around town! purchased factory refurbished for 130.
cons: traveling out of town not so great. lost sat's under clear skies and small screen, don't think 5" screen anybetter, hard to locate places by map. gps sensor not very sensitive/accurate. driving on feeder road still shows as being on freeway. laptop streets much better for out of town

Product works excellent...covers Canada which many others do not.
Also several years ago I had a product by Garmin out of warranty..they fixed it twice at no charge !!!! I know this isn't the real world, but that's how Garmin thinks...they care about their customer.

Not quite a Nuvi but a good value
I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 and have found it to be a fantastic product. Although prices have come down quite a bit since I bought it in July 2007, it's still a bit pricy. I was looking for a good unit to give as a gift, but I also wanted something that wasn't going to break the bank. After looking around a bit I decided on the Garmin c340. It was well priced with a few good features including text-to-speech which announces "Turn left on Elm Street", and not just "Turn Left". The two I gave my relatives are used frequently. They've had them for about a year now and so far they are very pleased with their c340. It lacks some of the bells & whistles that the more expensive nuvi models have, and it's bulky shape isn't as handy, but if your goal is to find an address or the travel necessities of fuel, food, etc., the c340 delivers very well for the money. For anyone who has been frustrated finding and downloading directions, or has missing their share of unmarked turns, the world of GPS is the best thing to come along since the Texaco Road Map. If you want to jump into GPS but don't want to go to the expense of a high end model, the c340 is a good value.
