XOG Tracking
If you're thinking about this unit for fishing, forget it. Slow speed tracking is worthless. This unit is incapable of "bread crumbing" a low speed, like when you're running with your trolling motor. The unit "straight lines" when going around structure. As if you had cut straight across the point or rock pile. There is now way that you could follow your trail back without running into trouble. Save your money and get a Garmin.......any Garmin. My old E-Trex Legend C (now obsolete) will run circles around the XOG. I wanted a larger screen, which the XOG has, but did not know that I was sacrificing accuracy. Plus it's extremely difficult to read in full sunlight. Which any handheld Garmin is Easier to view in bright light. This unit was meant for the car. It should have never been marketed for off road. Anybody want a 4 month old XOG with the Lakemaster Chip? I've got one really cheap.
Outrageous pricing for maps.
I was considering purchasing this for trail riding. I went to MapSelect and selected a relatively small area (20mi x 20mi). The price was $325. Suffice to say, I did not buy the XOG. And had no luck contacting Lowrance. I have encountered a similar problem with many other GPS manufacturers that advertise their GPS units for other than auto use (such as boats, trails, hiking, etc). They all claim it can be used for those applications but fail to detail the outrageous cost for those maps. The only company that I have had good luck with is Garmin and that is the only company I would recommend.
Couldn't Be Happier!
We purchased the XOG to use as a cross over unit, for my car and for our boat. My husband purchased a Lowrance GPS/Fish Finder combo unit and we do a lot of fishing in Western Washington. We wanted a secondary GPS just in case something happens to our main unit on our boat, so we can get back home. We have the Nautic path Marine SD Card and when placed in the XOG it gives us great detail of the ocean bottom, depths and any sunken hazards we need to be wary of.
The mapping system for my car is surprisingly easy to use. After a few minutes of going over the manual and playing with the touch screen, I had it up and running and it is GREAT!
I recently went to Tucson, AZ. I had never been there before, but with the XOG, I had no problem finding where I needed to go. It comes standard with lots of maps and detail and I am so pleased. I recommend this unit to any one. The only draw back is it does not have voice activation nor is it blue-tooth enabled.
But for what I use it and need it for, it gets 5 BIG STARS!
