Magellan 1445T GPS
By K. Preston
I recently purchased one of these units and this past weekend tried it out on a trip from the Pomona, CA area to Fresno, CA and back. All the features worked perfectly. I was really impressed with the "lane assist" feature. It not only alerted me of the proper lane to be in in the LA area, but also in Fresno. Although the integrated "traffic alert" didn't advise me of any traffic issues, (there weren't any on this trip) I did see the "advertisement" displayed on the screen. It is so small and well positioned, it is not a problem at all.
All in all, I think this is a fantastic GPS with a lot of great features for the money.
I also have a Garmin Nuvi 260W that works great also, for a few more dollars, you get a lot more features with the Magellan 1445T.

I'd like to rave about how great this is, but
By Richard F. Eggleton
Good thing Amazon provides a 30 day return policy. I bought this unit because I had great experiences with my 5 year old subscription based Magellan GPS. But right out of the box the Traffic Link did not work. I called Magellan's tech support to figure out the problem. After 90 minutes of trying to explain to someone across the globe that traffic coverage should be pretty solid in Los Angeles and I was getting no signal - only the message "acquiring signal" they agreed to replace the Traffic Link. About a week later it showed up via FedEx Ground. Once again, excited I plugged the unit in and headed for a 200 mile day trip in LA. NOT ONCE did it ever acquire the signal. I called Magellan and once again spoke to someone across the globe who apparently never heard of Los Angeles or the awful traffic here. They kicked me around for another 90 minutes to arrive at a supervisor who said I had two options - send it in to Magellan for repair - at my cost - or return it to the retailer I bought it from.
If the Traffic Link would have worked with either adapter I would have kept the unit. It's boxed and ready for drop off to return to Amazon.
Be very careful. If it doesn't work out of the box then return it immediately to Amazon. Do NOT mess with Magellan. I wasted 2.5 weeks of waiting and 3 hours on the phone with them. Don't you have better things to do?

Seemed great but...
By K. Anderson
SUMMARY OF REVIEW: Great features, great price but I went through two of these GPS units and they both QUIT for no good reason and NEVER TURNED ON AGAIN. They also had other issues. Read on...
After looking at several different GPS models, I decided to go with this one because of its Traffic Link and features, plus the price was right. Upon recieving it, I was pretty satisfied--I used it the very next day in my car and was happy with my purchase. However, later that evening upon arriving at my destination, I turned the GPS off and brought it inside with me. About 15 minutes after arriving, I turned it back on (or tried to) to no avail. I knew it didn't need a charge because I had it charging in the car all day. I tried the on/off switch probably a dozen times but nothing worked and there is no reset button or access to an internal battery. When I was leaving (after about two hours) I once again tried to turn it on, and it did. However, I was noticiing other issues with it, mainly on the one touch screen it would only save my addresses under one name. So it seemed that this particular GPS had some glitches. Thanks to Amazon's awesome return policy, I boxed it up and requested a replacement. The new GPS arrived quickly--before I had even sent off the old one, but I'm glad I hadn't because immediatly after opening up the replacement, I noticed the car charger was broken. I could see the broken pieces inside of the bag it was still wrapped in! Since I still had the old one (and that car charger seemed to work fine) I just switched them out. After using this GPS for about two weeks, it did the SAME THING--I turned it off and it just would not turn back on... ever. Not after an hour, not after a day. So I have returned the second one as well. Third time may be the charm, but I'm not giving Magellan that chance... I requested a refund and am now looking at Garmin and Tom Tom models. I'm already really missing the Magellan because its features were so great and the traffic link was helpful (note to potential buyers: the traffic link only works when you plug the GPS into your car charger (because the link is attached to the charger. When you are en route to something, a little traffic symbol is on the side, when it's red it warns of slow or stopped traffic and offers a new route and tells you the time of your current route with traffic conditions or the new route. I thought it was pretty nice, but not as smooth as I would have liked--too much clicking OK and waiting for it to load.) All of the other features were pretty great, too. I'm not a AAA member, but it seemed like a useful "pit stop" finder for places.
So, all in all, if you want a nice GPS for the price that LASTS ABOUT TWO WEEKS, then by all means, buy this one. Otherwise, spend your money elsewhere and don't waste time going through two failed units like I did. Hope this helps!
