Customer Reviews

simple smooth satisfied5
This is my first GPS unit. I am not a gadget guy. I bought this unit for a long trip (1600 miles) through lots of unfamiliar road systems. Set up was very easy. Everything worked right out of the box. The first trip I worked with was to the next city over. It gave me options of how to enter my destination, I chose and it said start driving. My wife was with me and said she needed to stop at a store on the way which I had not planned for. The GPS altered our rout to account for a different starting place and still got us to our destination. As we live in a major metro area, there are many different ways to get where you want to go. As we came to major roads the GPS told us to stay left of the exit and look for signs to proceed. Very handy to know which lane to be in if you are unfamiliar with the city. We use it now even for places we go to often and it has a favorite option which lists the address of favorite destinations stored so you do not have to re-enter them. Overall a great unit with good solid features easy to set up and use. The only slight flaw was the sound could be louder. I have not used the mp3 player yet but it does have a headphone attachment which should solve the sound problem.

so far so good4
I received an X3-08 for Christmas and just set it up and tried it today. Seems to be a good unit as far as navigation and adjusting when you go off route. Seems solid and I really like the mount. Also pleased that you get all of the accessories you will need. The display is fine at night (haven't tried it in daylight yet) and I like the touchscreen and intuitive menu system; although I have large fingers and did have just a bit of trouble making selections at the edges of the screen (they give you a stylus though; although I'm not sure if there's any storage for it on the unit or mount). one quirk I found while initially configuring the device (which is pretty simple I might add) was when I switched to the MP3 or Photo Viewer functions. I had trouble exiting so I could get back to the NAV mode and had to use the reset button on the back. I would assume this was because the map SD card was installed and not a one with .MP3 or .JPG files (or maybe it had something to do with being indoors and not getting a lock on the satellites). No big deal to me though because I definitely won't be using this as a photo frame or for music. I found Text-To-Speech to be wanting as far as clarity and volume but didn't expect much from such a compact device anyway. Was pleasantly surprised though when I tried using a patch cord from the head phone jack to the AUX jack on my car sterio. Speech quality was excellent after that; so I would expect that earbuds would also work better than the built-in speakers. Maps are fine but this is my first time using one of these devices so I don't have much of a point of reference. All in all I give this unit good marks. Unit was purchased elsewhere for $99 with a $20 rebate, which seems like a steal. Should also mention that if you buy one and don't have an AUX jack on your car radio, I would imagine that you could probably accomplish the same thing using one of those FM transmitters that they sell for .MP3 players.

Amazing for the Price!5
I bought this unit at a black Friday sale for $79.99. Before I did I read reviews on it and most said it was great for the price. I will have to agree. First of all its the lowest price gps I've ever seen. I used to work at RadioShack a few months ago and worked there for over a year so I have tested a bunch of gps units. This one is just as accurate as any gps out there. It also has text to speech which is great becuase when you come to a bunch of roads and your not sure which one to take this says the actual road name instead of just turn here. Like in one of the reviews earlier this is not a flashy gps. You can't change the voices to famous people and you can only do so much with the display but the features you need are there.

Pros -
1. Predictive text when typing in the city name or road name makes for quick routing.
2. There are 4 different modes to set your route, such as quickest, shortest distance and so on. You can also modify them to avoid tolls and so on.
3. Text to speech is awesome.
4. Extra Features such as an mp3 player if you aren't using it for directions.
5. It comes with everything you would ever need for a gps. It comes with a case, mounting for the window or dash, Home and Car Charger, Software for map upgrades on the SD card, and really good instruction manuals.
6. The touch screen is very accurate and responsive.

Cons-
1. The Battery life isn't the greatest. But no gps is yet. If you set the screen to the dimmest possible it lasts around 2 to 2.5 hours if you leave the brightness all the way up it it will last 1 to 1.5 hours.
2. No bluetooth but what do you expect for the price. To be honest unless you have a phone that can send directions to the gps who needs bluetooth anyway.
3. There aren't as many POI's as other gps units out there. It only has 1.5 million when others have 6 million.

Overall the Cons seem to be things that aren't a necessity when having a gps. So if you don't care about the cons I listed this is a great unit. When I am buying a gps I care about map accuracy and the text to speech thing is pretty nice and this gps has those. Also the map updates are supposed to be free when they come out. Unlike any other gps unit.
